Holy Ideas

We’ve found a whole new world of joy exploring our in-house ideas. With all the wild talent under our roof, we’d be true fools not to, right? We share our creativity with all kinds of inspiring people and companies, from cultural organisations to start-ups and beyond. These projects keep us fresh and exciting, hopefully they bring a smile to your face like they do to ours.

HOLY BOLO

Moving, whether it be to a different country or simply to a different street, can be awaken a lot of creativity. That’s why our move to the Amsterdam Bos & Lommer area (aka BoLo) brought a whole new load of inspiration. Mix that with our natural urge to get to know a new neighborhood better and you have our latest idea: Holy BoLo.

We actively discover all BoLo’s best, in the span of a minute-or-two. In the first edition we get to know Fikret: butcher, neighborhood dad, and BoLo’s very own superhero. Holy BoLo is a concept dreamt up by Johan Kramer and made a reality by the skills of our intern, Gianna Mazzeo. What Holy BoLo truly teaches us? That around every corner there’s a different story to tell.

Holy Mats

Holy Mats

The story of Norwegian Haiku master, ‘Holy Mats’ is the brainchild of genius Johan Kramer, conceived as an end-of-year gift to the agencies and brands that partner with Holy Fools. The result? A poetic and cinematic piece that celebrates creativity and the importance of a warm and cosy head to prevent writers’ block. This film has the signature tongue-in-cheek flair we know and love about Johan’s writing and was shot on beautiful 35mm film by the talented cinematographer, Katja van den Broeke. This one goes out to all the inspiring creative people we collaborate with on a daily basis – it takes a village!

UILTJE BREWING COMPANY

Uiltje

Uiltje Brewing Company, one of the coolest beer brands around, asked us if we could come up with a nice little film for their latest creation; Superb Owl, a super tasty non-alcoholic IPA. Challenge accepted. Director Joris Dommels and his crew spent months on the Dutch Savanna to create a unique documentary containing never before seen footage of a sixpack of Superb Owl’s in their natural habitat.

Nationale Museumweek

For most of us, the last two years felt like Groundhog day: every day the same routines. Now it’s time to break away from that fixed rhythm and surprise ourselves again. Johan Kramer wrote and directed this commercial for the upcoming Museumweek, based on that thinking. The film was shot on beautiful 35mm material by Berlin based cinematographer Henk Otte and edited by Camille Bouwmans . Hopefully it inspires you as well to visit one of the 682 museums in The Netherlands. And always remember: stay arty, stay foolish.

Greenpeace

This witty campaign video for Greenpeace Netherlands packs a powerful punch, flying in the face of the few (but loud) opponents of wind energy. Beer ten Kate directed this tongue-in-cheek ‘mockumentary’, poking fun at Barry and his bizarre family tradition of protesting progressive social innovations, from penicillin to the internet. Playful yet pointed, it perfectly highlights the importance of clean energy, and the absurdity of those behind-the-times dinosaurs, like Barry, who stubbornly resist it. Who wants to be a Barry?

The night that

The night that looked like day

What if everything you are used to, changes in a blink of an eye? It sounds like a plot for a Hollywood science fiction film. But after COVID-19 we know it isn’t. It changed the way we eat, travel, communicate, and live together with friends, family, and strangers. It has put all our certainties aside and no one knows what lies ahead. ‘The night that looked like day’ captures our distorted reality with shots from all over the world. Empty streets and squares, closed shops, and no one to be seen. As if the night is in broad daylight, and the world is paused for a moment. ‘The night that looked like day’ shows what happens when you wake up one day and the world is no longer the same.  This film shows what connects us. Not only here, but all over the world. Director Susanne Opstal therefore invited more than 75 international filmmakers, friends, and even friends of friends to capture their sense of place and time. Places where we couldn’t go and film ourselves. The result is a document that shows we are united as one, all over the world.
